About Me
As a black college graduate with a bachelor’s of science degree, I majored in social work with a personal interest in child welfare. I interned at The Resource Center for a year in which I worked with people that had different mental disabilities, backgrounds and ages. Not only did I have firsthand experience building trusting relationships but learned how to mediate both conflicts and internal struggles. I created lesson plans to help facilitate groups with a focus on bettering mental health and building personal coping toolboxes. I also gained a better understanding of some of the resources offered to individuals dealing with mental illnesses and low economic backgrounds. I can easily say that I was also able to grow from the relationships I formed with the clientele and I am incredible grateful for the opportunity. As a person who came from a low economic background I have not only a personal interest in welfare but the upbringing of the children in our community. I know firsthand the importance of the accessibility of resources and aid.
