Electrical Engineer β Entry Level (Hybrid)
Job description
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will involve integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into electrical systems. Typical tasks will include completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; writing proposals and reports; and communicating with clients. Project work will be related to power and controls for power plants, refineries, mining facilities, municipal water and wastewater facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems
- 0 to 3 years of relevant experience
- Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
- A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
- Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization
- Knowledge and experience with industrial manufacturing processes such as power plants, petroleum refining, mining and/or minerals processing, chemical production, or municipal facilities
- Power distribution design and maintenance experience
- Experience with Allen Bradley and Schneider Electric PLC configuration and programming
- Experience with protective device coordination, short-circuit studies, and arc flash analyses using SKM and ETAP software
- Experience with motor control, lighting, grounding, conduit plans, sizing of power cable, and electrical equipment
- Proven project or task management skills
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified or ability to obtain within one year
- GPA of 3.0 or greater
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis or Duluth, Minnesota, offices.
NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
