Job Summary

The Designer will work on a variety of projects, from small to large, supporting Mechanical, Process and Plumbing Engineers and other staff.   This is an entry-level position, with a general understanding of HVAC, Piping Systems, and consulting engineering or design-build contracting industries being preferred.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work closely with senior engineers through the design and construction administration process.
  • Create MEP and Process engineering designs with Revit.
  • Conduct analyses to develop design options and recommendations.
  • Assist in the planning and design of MEP and Process systems for commercial facilities, including education, healthcare, office facilities, and other commercial and industrial projects.
  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in the preparation of equipment schedules.
  • Propose innovative solutions to design issues.
  • Coordinate project scope, design, and deadlines with project managers/senior engineers.
  • Perform submittal and shop drawing reviews and ensure timely response to RFI’s.
  • Conduct construction site reviews, prepare feasibility studies, and basis of design reports.
  • Manage tasks as required to ensure work is completed on time and budget.
  • Active participant in the design and construction project team meetings.
  • Coordinate, support, and communicate with colleagues across disciplines.
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that designs are compliant with Building/Energy Codes and LEED standards.
  • Implement design in BIM environment
  • Field survey of existing mechanical and piping systems to ensure accurate and optimized solutions for clients.
  • Participate in equipment hookup “tool installation” design including layout of toolsets, mechanical and piping utility design, and creation of specialized drawings such as process flow and P&IDs.
  • Assist with environmental health and safety code compliance reports and calculations.
  • Implement ATCE quality assurance procedures during the design process
  • Other duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

  • Knowledgeable of codes, standards, and construction/engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with HVAC system concepts and engineering calculation methods
  • Familiarity with Piping systems concepts and engineering calculation methods.
  • Familiarity with Codes and Standards such as Building Codes, NFPA, ASME B31.3, ACGIH, ASHRAE, ANSI, and other pertinent codes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with multiple project deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required, Bluebeam, Revit, and other engineering analysis and compliance software tools a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
  • LEED Accreditation preferred.

Salary Range

This is a hybrid role. It is anticipated that the working days in the office will be done at our San Jose, CA office. The expected hourly range for candidates who will work in San Jose, CA is $33 to $45 per hour. The final offer to our new team member will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the length, breadth, and depth of experience within the job and the industry, education, etc. ATCE is a multi-state employer, and this range may not reflect positions that work in other states
