Mechanical Engineer (New Grad)

Thales is looking for a Mechanical Engineer – New Graduate to help support the mechanical design, development and release of technical documentation of line replaceable units (LRU) and components through design reviews and qualification testing. You will also support LRU development through initial manufacturing builds and mass production, work with third-party partner(s) and internal multi-disciplinary teams comprised of technical experts, program managers, field service and Operations to execute product design details.   Product designs shall enable efficient manufacturing and service, and feature reliable performance and robust construction.  

In this position you will also work with external partners for CAD data management and revision control.   Apply CAD and CAE tools for product design, detailed part and assembly drawings, structural & thermal analysis to LRU products.  Participate and lead engineering reviews in accordance with Thales development process (KOR, DRR, PDR, CDR, PRR), and lead peer reviews among technical teams to examine and record findings for corrective actions on technical and documentation issues.

Internal customers:

  • Hardware Engineering, Product management, Industrial OPS, Purchasing and Procurement.

External coordination:

  • Development partners, contract manufacturers, suppliers and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical detail design:  Optimize mechanical part and assembly design in concert with development and manufacturing partners.  Review findings from development and qualification testing and work with internal and external engineering teams to analyze and execute solutions.
  • Mechanical CAD design:  Generate 3D CAD design data to meet LRU requirements. Integrate 3D CAD design data (CREO 4.0) into the Thales archives (WindChill) and document control system (TeamCenter).
  • Check completed layouts and drawings to clarify completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, manufacturability, and accuracy of calculations and dimensions.
  • Release and update Bills of Material and technical drawings furnished by supplier to meet Quality Assurance conformity standards and to maintain production configuration control.
  • Conduct comprehensive design reviews with engineering team and manufacturing partners to confirm completion of engineering, cost and manufacturability requirements. Plan and execute mechanical design project tasks according to project / program schedules.
  • Support Customer Service configuration releases and Sustaining Engineering investigations.   Manage drawing and BOM updates in collaboration with Thales Operations staff and manufacturing partners.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline from four-year college or university.
  • 0-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding and experience with aerospace and/or computer industries.
  • Understanding of RTCA DO-160, industry standards.

Special Position Requirements

  • Schedule: Core Business Hours Monday-Friday, Requires weekly, some times daily, work with teams across the globe and with varying work schedules. Irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to complete specific projects.
  • Travel: May require up to 5% domestically and internationally. Must keep active passport.
